Prostitution is illegal in Vietnam. This story is for the eeeuuww*file, but would seem to give some credence to the findings on condom availability in the NBER paper.

Ok, legalize it but it has to be open and public/ real names ids of customers and no cash payments, all traceable transactions. It is important to be able to do contact tracing.

It is important that doctors, employers, the government, data collecting agencies have access to this information. Oh and wives/girlfriends of course as it affects them the most.

you actually dont have the right to set terms for people to do something that they naturally have the right to do. not surprisingly, your terms are focused on some weird personal satisfaction that you may get from shaming and embarrassing people for using/providing this service.

Private sex is a cultural universal. Your desire to make sex public would be considered sexual perversion around the world.

I am sure you are fine with government overreach on contact tracing Covid-19 cases also? Or is that different? If it legal why should all of these agencies and businesses need this info?

I lived 15 years ago in a smallish Texas town. They opened an adult boutique which was a big deal at that time in that community. The sheriff's department stationed a deputy parked in the parking lot taking down license plates with the excuse that if a sexual assault occurred somewhere they would leads to tracking the person down. Essentially they were saying anyone who went in that store was a sexual deviant and potential rapist. The public was not happy and they quickly stopped this practice.

People should be free to do what they want with other consenting adults. If someone is cheating on their spouse. They will find a way whether its legal, illegal or with someone who is not a sex worker.

Not if you involve the government, which will regulate it the way it sees fit.

So keep it the way it is, the hookers don't have to answer to the government unless they get busted, they just have to be careful and stay underground.

Sex is never guaranteed private, everyone knows that.

The government is involved in it now. Making it a federal crime to advertise sex worker services. And on a more local level workers and johns are arrested for being involved in this trade. And you waste police man hours in sting operations and arresting those involved.

So either you keep the cat and mouse game going or you treat it like a business. And with legal businesses the government does not record all transactions and send the info to employers and family members. That sounds like Communist China. Tax the transactions and require a work permit and regular health screening for the sex workers.

no, legalize it and arrest every cop that ever arrested someone for it and lock them up for kidnapping.

Really? Beneficial to the girls that get trafficked? And I do mean "girls", i.e. children, not to mention the adult women who fall into that trap.

People who think legalized prostitution is a good idea tend to vote against having it in their neighborhoods. If it's such a good idea, why would they not want it near them?

Where have there been votes on legalizing prostitution in certain areas? I don't remember voting on something like that. Obviously no one is saying children should be part of legalized prostitution. Perhaps if it was legal for adults the investigators would have more time and resources to stop sex trafficking of underage girls as well as others smuggled into the country and forced into prostitution.
