One thing I don't like is how people make fun of how foreigners speak english with their accents. It's not fair. They can't speak like us because thewy were raised with those accents, like German or Spanish.
I know just what you mean, it's those Canadian accents that really get me....
It's interesting that half the posts whining about not using proper English are saturated with grammar and spelling errors. Is this a case of 'do as I say, not as I do'?
And to those of you who are bellyaching about spelling: Why don't you put in that same amount of effort into having English orthography remotely resemble the spoken word and remotely make the tiniest grain of sense? If enough people did that, maybe it wouldn't be such an archaic joke.

But if the thread was limited only to people who know how to put a decent sentence together (with all the words spelled correctly) then it wouldn't have lasted very long!

I work in an OR, a professional environment. Other staff members (who are professionals) in my opinion do not speak correctly. Substituting "axed" for "asked" and taking "l"s completely out of words. Now I'm from New York so we speak a little differently to begin with but this is a little far. The issue is everyone seems OK with it. Is this being allowed at schools? Opinions please.
I agree with you.
When I was taking my English comp. classes in the late 1980s in college, they were teaching us that grammar and spelling errors weren't that important. So it's no surprise to me that I see so much slop just about everywhere now, including in online newspapers.
Americans have gotten sloppy about just about everything, including speaking, reading, and writing correctly.
We can't spell.
We can't save money (until recently).
40% of our kids are born out of wedlock......
It's all part of the same undisciplined, sloppy, mentality.
