secondly, as said they are more than welcome to a secular union, just don't call it by the religious designation of marriage.
Firstly, no religion holds the title of ownership to either the term, or practice, of marriage. Thanks to English Common Laws translating through our Revolution into the newly formed United States of America, marriage has always been a g'ment institution in this Nation. Just becasue a portion of our citizens (my wife and I not included, btw, we were married in a court house) prefer to include their religion in WEDDING CERIMONIES, does not transmit some title of ownership to "religion".

Secondly, while I won't insist you do your own research, I can reasonably expect you to do your own reading...

The Difference Between Gay Marriage and Civil Unions

Plus courts are pretty much worthless.

Just do what you want to do and don't let society or law tell you any differently.

"Marriage" is an artificial construct where a person's commitment to another is "recognized" by a religious institution and/or a legal entity. I don't see where you need the approval of either church or government to be considered to be in a lifelong committed relationship with another person.

You seem to LIKE having the government control your life. Why?

no no, my friend, i am aware of the multitude of benefits i derive from the government, you are a bit hypocritical because you say you don;t need or want the benefits, but nonetheless still use them
let me drop you off on an island somewhere and then you can claim your independence

If I happen to live next to a stream, I'm not going to wait for rain to provide my drinking water. I'm going to use whatever is right there.

It isn't, I could still collect rainfall. But if it's more convenient to me, why would I NOT use it? Exploit it, for my own advantage?
