With no US backing, you'd see more than Palestinians knocking on Israeli doors.

Israel will collapse. The Israeli economy is dependent on the billions sent from the US. American Jews may be able to soften the blow. In 2008, it was roughly 2.4 billion. Sources: CRS Report RL33222: US Foreign Aid to Israel, (1/2/2008) and H.R. 2764

You didn't say one tenth, you said we spend 83% as much as we spend on ourselves.

I am against all foreign aid BTW.

You must just make up facts, what are you the reincarnation of Mitch Snyder? Next you will say 40 homeless people die in America every second.
Figures for "defense" vary widely , depending on whether you use actual working budget allocated to the defense department itself, or all moneys spent in all areas of national security. My figures are defensible, although there might not be a single year in which they would apply. The fact is that the US has spend an obscene amount of money defending Israel. Even worse, the billions of aid to Israel nearly all represented public funds that drained right back into the profits of private corporations who sold arms to Israel. It was tens of billions handed over to American defense corporations from our taxes, laundered in Israel. Which is the whole purpose of our national defense policy in the first place.

I agree, it is a lot of money. My point was to show how you make up facts.

It reminds me of these financial institutions that are too big to fail.

Israel is like Uncle Sam's pampered nephew; he'd have nothing on his own, yet he fronts like he's got game. All the while Uncle Sam suffers and apologizes for the little one who makes and keeps enemies at every turn. You just want to say, go now, we've given you a strong military and helped you all we can, good luck out there.

What? People in this forum don't just make up facts? Most people's body of knowledge consists almost entirely of their absorbed catalog of made-up facts, and one can only be persuasive by making up his own to counter the fable-based orthodoxy.

For example, just the other day, I heard this one:

"No one was ever convicted of reducing corporate profits". Apparently that poster has never heard of embezzlement.

The US Israeli "support" is really the US supporting it's own interests in the region. Israel has been the anvil on which mid east malcontents will be hammered by Israeli forces when they get too far out of line with current US foreign policy. The past revelations of US-Israeli mistrust shows that the Israeli's know they are pawns in the global scheme. It has been noted that a hell of a lot of supposed foreign aid goes right into the pockets of the US corporate elite, Jim Hightower was fond of saying "follow the money", in the case of US support of Israel and foreign aid in general this is the best course to take........
