Hard to believe that taking something outta the ground would cause earthquakes......isn't it?
"Earthquakes aren't just a side effect; they're literally how the process of fracking for natural gas works: Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, requires that you inject fluid at high pressure deep into rocks in order to split them asunder. The micro-earthquakes this process causes are how you know it's working. Generally, they're too slight for anyone to feel. The United States Geological Survey doesn't think the production wells used for fracking in the Arkansas are causing the most recent large earthquakes. Rather, they think the problem is "re-injection" wells, in which fracking wastewater is forced under pressure into the ground beneath small towns."

The next time we have a high tide let's agree to call it a Tsunami.
By definition, those aren't earthquakes but education isn't the strong suit of that blogger.
The last time I heard this one it was by a right-wing christian group predicting the end times in 2000 since the oil pumped out of the earth in the mid-east etc. were going to cause the earth to collapse...armagedon etc.
As a geologist, it doesn't surprise me that fracking could be to blame, especially when you understand the process. It's also poisoning the water supplies. It's a nasty method of extracting gas.
Wow I never considered that. Earthquakes, amazing. I was near one of our constuction sites and they were pounding support beams into the ground. That felt like a mini earthquake. Maybe we should stop building buildings. LOL
With the most natural gas in the world, and not all of it coming out of Washington D.C. we could sure take a dent out of the oil we use now if we were to get more of the natural gas out of the ground, don't you think?
Basically one can find a articles caliming many thngs if you look whetehr actaully proving anything or not.Sink holes are caused by something but the cause isn't always the same. maybe one reson even civilization with no extraction often has some of the worse earthquakes. Its lie pointing out that removing crude form the ground has caused the shoratge now.
We humans know very little still about earthquakes and their causes, the effects of our mineral activities, etc.
There may well be some truth to the article in the OP.
Absolutely. There are scientists taking this seriously. The blase attitude seen here is very surprising to me.
