First, the net residence time of CO2 is on the order of centuries not thousands of years. Second, carbon sequestration has already been shown to be able to draw down CO2 from both the ocean and the atmosphere. Pretending that limiting emissions paired with sequestration cannot mitigate the effects of climate change is a lie.
Unfortunately, all the carbon already natural sequestered in the oceans and permafrost is being released at rates that have scientists seriously concerned, and the rate of release will only increase in coming years. The only thing that might save us is if the Gulf Stream gets shut down, due to massive melt-off from Greenland, and causes a mini-ice age, at least. Norway has been monitoring the gulf stream for about 20 years, and has been getting more nervous as it slows down more and more.

There is a problem with global warming and it is the hotter thing become, the more methane gets moved from its trapped frozen state in permafrost and under the sea, into the gaseous state and alarmingly it is far worse than CO2 as a greenhouse gas.

However, I dont think it is man who is messing up the balance of things but the way the Earth is moving through the Galaxy. I think there are huge cycles which we do not recognize. As the Earth moves along, it moves through different energetic environments which all have an effect on our environment. This is why we see ice ages and different events in our past which have affected the Earth and killed of different species across time.

We are looking at things from a very small perspective and we should be looking at a much bigger picture as the Earth moves through the Galaxy/Universe. A couple of hundred years is not going to make much difference, even if we have started to burn more fossil fuels etc.

Thats not to say we should not make our environment better and get rid of these polluting things. Of course we should.

But then, I could be barking... up the wrong tree completely.

I suggest we not only try to find the causes of Global Warming we should be preparing to build things to mitigate the more damaging possibilities. We could start with major earthworks to protect the planet's larger cities from Sea level rise. IIRC Shanghai will be under water if the mean sea level increases less then 10 ft. NYC is not much better off.
