Since when?? We supply 3/4ths of the worlds grain supply. Farmer's are paid NOT to plant fields because what we have is over produced already.
One could argue that densely packed housing is worse for the environment because it doesn't allow for green space. Plants and trees are essential for clean air, etc. We have 25 trees on our lot along with extensive landscaping. I am sure our lot is much more ecofriendly then a postage stamp lot in the city given the plant life alone.
