Honda Aero Inc. broke ground Wednesday, November 28th on its new corporate headquarters and new jet engine plant in Burlington. The facility will employ about 70 with an average annual salary of $62,000. The plan is to eventually manufacture 200 small jet engines a year.
The planned $27 million investment encompasses 36,000 square feet of office space and about 66,400 square feet of manufacturing and testing facilities. The investment to build the HF120 turbofan engine is another example of the company's expanding presence in North Carolina as it carries out plans to grab market share in the aviation market. The jet engine facility is in addition to a planned $100 million complex at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro. That facility will make the HondaJet, a small executive jet.
