Now that Verizon has bought out Alltel, they are fantastic. I have it in Winston-Salem and am never without cell service. Plus, if it is as your house you do not have it (likely will not happen), you can buy a signal booster that works up to four phones by connecting it to your broadband internet in your home and it works up to about 3000 feet I think. Good idea. (But I do have decent coverage everywhere, 99 percent of the time)
Having tried most carriers in Greensboro, I'll go with Verizon by far.
