Dell Is Closing NC Plant- Talk About a "blow" to the economy
Dell closing N.C. plant; 905 workers losing jobs - CharlotteObserver.com (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/topstories/story/989609.html - broken link)
It is in the triad between Winston And Greensboro and was announced in late summer the triad despite low wages has never been a technology center This and the scandal with Pace Airlines is a big blow.
900 @ Dell, 300+ at Pace (least they are waiting to be paid
At least leaders had their heads screwed on enough to have criteria in place for the incentives given, meaning the incentives will be paid back. Its really ashame this happened.
Why would a company like Dell invest so much money into a new plant, hire 900 workers and then just split due to our current economic recession?
Words like "unfortunate" just don't seem to match this disaster!

we'll see. i hate to be cynical, but this deal stunk from the get-go.
and i understand that the (W-S) city incentives call for a payback, but is that also true for the state tax dollars, which ran about $250 million? truly don't know.
Bottom Line is 900 people are losing their job. Now Im not the most business savvy person in the world...but really would like to know why Dell is giving back the incentives to the state, etc. I mean why are they suddenly closing...Have talks been in the work for a while...were they just not making the profits they thought they would...I mean whats the real deal...Hopefully someone that is reading this/insider at the Dell Corporation can shed some light on the situation.
Just Plain Sad.
