Even though you don't have to be "animal crazy" to respect animals and hope for them to have a decent life I wonder about one thing.
If you are not "animal crazy" (stupid term anyway) then I am not sure why this thread is of any interest for you?

I'm sure they all want a bigger zoo as well.
I don't recall reading a comment about the workers but I can only talk for myself anyway. I don't think at all that the workers at the zoo don't love animals but that doesn't change the circumstances for the animals. Quaint and cute and convenient for us humans means horrible for the animals.

I agree on one important thing. It is very nice to see that there are people that want to find a better/bigger place for the animals. We will see if it will be good enough. I hope so!

Hadn't thought about that spot. Any idea how large it is?

Because I get tired of people worrying about the ethical treatment of animals, while at the same time having little value for human life. Oh, and there are people who are indeed animal crazy.

Let me guess...you have a pit bull?

(just kidding)

Lol, no. My daughter has a Chihuahua. I don't hate animals, I just don't like it when folks get extreme about them. I have no problem with the zoo, but I welcome a new and bigger zoo.

Gotta be close to 100 acres. A few years back there was talk of putting something big there, i.e convention center, park, etc. and moving all of the offices somewhere else. If you ever see an aerial picture of it, it is prime land, backs up to the far end of Falls Park and the Governors School; close enough to be able to walk to from downtown. It's really a great piece of property. I'm not very computer savvy, or I would post an aerial pic of it.

Who has said anything about human life? We are talking about the zoo. It sounds like you have some preconceived notions?

What makes someone "animal crazy?"

What I think is crazy that people think it's ok to keep animals confined to such a tiny space for our enjoyment.

And who would that be here for example? I don't think anybody here implied that human life has little value.

PETA, and many other animal lovers. I'm just making a point that there are people who have it worse and no one cares.

Great, but nobody HERE said anything that would indicate that. Therefore it is pointless, because that is not the topic here. There are people that suffer all over the world which is a horrible thing but that has nothing to do with this topic.
We are discussing the Greenville zoo and it's animals. If you want to discuss suffering people you'll have to find a different thread.

Bottomline: The Greenville zoo in it's current form is horrible for the animals. The fact that people in Greenville are looking for a bigger location is a good start. We will see if it is good enough. The fact that people have to suffer doesn't make it ok, that animals have to suffer, too. No creature should have to suffer.
