Ricky Chastain was first elected as Laurens County Sheriff in 2000 as a Democrat. As the political winds in South Carolina blew conservative, liberal Democrats switched political affiliations to keep their seats. Chastain jumped on the bandwagon in 2004. He faces a challenger in a Republican primary in June.
