I felt this would be and interesting topic. Not saying I'm for or against it, but what do you folks think about it? Would it hurt or help? Most of our urban areas aren't in any city limits. This would give us a tax base of 450k+ people. I know I know. Don't bust my chops. Most of us are already paying double anyways. I pay Simpsonville and Greenville County, yet Georgia Rd. looks like crap. So lets go! Stay civil. No bashing. Lol
Consilidation may improve or hurt some situations.
In law enforcement, the Greenville County Sheriff's Office is the primary agency. Absorbing Greenville, Mauldin, Simpsonville and Travelers Rest's agencies gives more manpower.
In fire, minicupal fire districts increase in size through annexation, and takes over protection area for non-minicupal areas.

I see. Interesting. Are there any known cities that this has helped?
The county as a whole is still too rural. Focus more on fidning easier ways to get areas annexed that should be already. All upstate counties could have larger city areas, but bringing the whole county in doesn't seem wise looking at the big picture. Its worked alright for augusta, but also look at how the entire county is developed.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) have had consolidated law enforcement for quite a few years. I've never lived there so I don't know if it's better consolidated than not. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County (NC) have consolidated Planning & Inspections (building permits, etc.). I have lived there and I think it works very well. I don't think, however, that it covers the other incorporated municipalities in Forsyth County.
Not sure which or why you're asking. I do know that whenever I cross into Georgia from SC no matter what road, highway, or freeway it is the pavement is very noticably smoother and better maintained, and seems to remain that way at least MOST of the way to wherever I'm going. I believe they're also going to (or maybe have already started) to widen 85 from Gainesville to Hartwell to at least 3 lanes each way.

I asked because it was in the opeing statement. Georgia Road is a road that run from near Woodruff to near Pelzer. One side is East and the other side is West.
