Common core. Between that, and my Son being taught creationism both in Beaufort County and Greenville County schools- I finally pulled him out to homeschool him. It's working out much better for us! (and we found the bullying to be pretty bad here, for my Son- because we *don't* go to church- hard for a kid to learn when every day kids are teasing him about not reading the Bible and telling him he will go to h*ll.

There's a lot of material online about various states fighting against common core curriculum-- if you search it you can get more info and find the SC groups.

I have a hard time believing your son was bullied for not going to church and not reading the bible and kids were telling he was going to hell. LOL Most kids aren't focused on church and religion.

they teach evolution and global warming in high school and neither one as been proven. Even Darwin said evolution was just a theory he fancied.

Believe me, I'm not making it up. It happened in both Beaufort county and Greenville county public schools. Homeschooling my child was not a delicate choice, as I am a single Mother with no living family members and no support network in Greenville county. So the fact that I took him out of school to homeschool him is pretty evident that there were dire circumstances there which led me to feel the need to do such a thing. Oh, I am also self employed- which makes homeschooling him even more complicated.

Big decision, but at least my Son is no longer have nightmares of burning to death in a lake of fire and being taunted by demons.

lol, those kids were just teasing him, if this did happen, they weren't being serious.

How old is your kid? He seems to worry too much about what other people say and I am not sure you are helping him by withdrawing him from these social interactions. People say negative stuff to other people, that is part of life.

I'm not telling you what to do though, just throwing some stuff out there. I don't have kids. LOL

Yeah, if I didn't have kids I probably wouldn't be able to understand the whole situation or grasp the severity of it. Kids can be really mean- but some kids take it to an extreme level. Up to a certain point you can tell your kid to toughen up, deal with it, be strong- that's normal for elementary school. But the stuff he's experienced is far past normal. Once it got to a certain point I'd be remiss in allowing him back into situations like that. It was bad enough that the teachers and staff were blind to it. And it's not just from the Christian kids- but I digress, just glad he's not in that situation (or learning Common Core) any longer.

was this at a private Christian school?

I grew up in Florence SC which is a religious area and I don't remember anybody at school bringing up religion or asking if I went to church. Most of the bullying was just bigger kids picking on smaller kids.

No, it was at public school in both Beaufort and Greenville counties. Kids didn't bully with religion when I was a kid either, but things are really different now, believe me- you can't make this stuff up. Religion just gives them another tool in their bully toolbox to use. I was shocked on a daily basis at the stuff that was going on regarding bullying in my Son's years of 2nd through 5th grade. Nothing like that happened when I was in those grades- sure, stuff happened in High School, but this was serious stuff- I can't even fathom what would be going on in the higher grades if elementary school was that bad. And kids have smartphones these days- yes, even in elementary school. That adds a whole new level of meanness into the equation.
