And yet your concern would apply no matter where the lights were located, so this thread should be in "Politics and Other Controversies".
What other holiday has been historically represented in American/western culture with lights? ........ What's next, will the pc police start cphiaalling a menorah a Holiday Candelabra?
Well, you DO sort of answer your own question here.

Seriously, though, I am pretty sure the Christian God is strong enough to withstand a few euphemisms, a little inclusiveness, whatever.

As an aside: the traditional 'Santa Shop' at my boys' former elementary school was renamed the 'Holiday Shop' a couple years ago because -- wait for it -- a parent complained that 'Santa' was too Christian.

I know of some Christians who claim that Santa is too pagan because it detracts from Christmas. As proof: Santa is an anagram of Satan.

See that's what made this so funny to me: that the complaining parent equated Santa with Christianity (especially whilst our collective preoccupation with Santa has in turn spawned all sorts of 'reason for the season' and 'happy birthday Jesus' merchandise).

For the record I totally 'get' non-Christians who don't want, say, a nativity scene on taxpayer-funded property (although inclusiveness might feel more palatable to believers were it a two-way street) ... but protesting Santa?

As the thread continues, remember this is a local forum, "and war on Christmas" or "being PC" or whatnot are hardly local topics.
Yac.
