And as you may have encountered as well, a number of questions not health related or pertaining to the visit at hand. Such as " Do You Have Working Smoke Detectors?" I was somewhat taken aback by this type of questioning as I sat there with a respiratory condition needing attention. Medical attention is what I came for and paying for! Come to find out (Unsolicited Response from Practitioner) that your medical attention is now being shared and overtaken with the Physicians need to pay attention more to a computer interface than your face! Yep! This is what is in store for us in the advance of medicine. No time to get to know the patient, just put the info in the computer an an algorithm will tell them what his or her needs may be. Orwelian? Cookie Cutter Medicine? Less time with knowing the "True" patient needs and more required time for the physician to input data. Sad. Which then is strewn out to you in reams of paper. So much for protecting our trees! I have seen and experienced changes to our medical needs that gives me pause. I believe a lot of physicians feel the same way. JMHO.

Working smoke detectors seem important for someone with a respiratory condition.

I think our old pediatrician in Easley asked about guns, and our pediatrician in Indianapolis asked about it last week. Our boys are very young, and don't know the guns exist yet. They are definitely out of reach, and we no longer keep them "condition 1".

Since last year the doctors my husband and I both see are typing away on their computers. Our family doctor left the practice in March along with 2 more resigning from the largest hospital affiliation in our area.

All of the info about each of us is being entered into the federal government files. This was in the Affordable Care Act. Patients will no longer have patient confidentiality because all centralized records will be maintained by the government. Another part of the ACA where one had to read the Bill after it was passed to know what was in it. The reason this was in the ACA was explained away saying if you had an emergency away from your home and your regular doctors, an emergency doctor that treated you would have your history available immediately.

I guess knowing you had smoke detectors in your home would assist the ER doc in your treatment. What has working smoke detectors to do with your health problem? Our smoke detectors would loudly alert us if our house was on fire or smoke was coming from somewhere and I need to call 911.

My Doc recently tried to initiate these types of questions. He fnally realized I was never going to answer anything except what was directly related to treat my specific medical complaint. He's quite welcome to any and all medically related information, but only that. I simply refuse to cooperate and will continue to do so, where I feel it invades my personal privacy.

Nice of you to downcode his chart he doesn't get paid as much or gets dragged into some compliance investigation. Like it was his choice in the first place.

I really hate that it has come to that. I like the guy well enough, but I'm feeling exactly zero guilt over any of it. Just for the record, I also refused to complete the long census form too. They got the mandated head count and nothing more. The census taker who tried to visit gave up as well

'Privacy' is long gone, especially if you have a smart phone, internet, or a late model car.
