Some images / info that will be available at tonight's meeting for the I85/290 proposed interchange (exit63) re-design options (Loop Ramp option not shown in photos posted here in this post):
Sealed Air would b bottom center building, the TA truck stop / McDonald's top left.
I do not see how loop ramps would be advantageous. It appears that option is out of consideration.
A single point urban interchange would require replacing the existing bridge, would take twice as long to complete as a diverging diamond interchange, and would have a shorter life expectancy through projected traffic volumes.
A diverging diamond interchange would maintain the existing bridge, replace two five-foot sidewalks with a single eight-foot sidewalk in the median, and allow for double left turn lanes onto Interstate 85 in both directions of East Main Street. This appears to be the most popular option.
SCDOT says SC i85 North will have 2 lanes at mm77 closed (just before 85business merges back) for repairs starting 9am Tuesday Dec20,2016 for cement slab pouring. Lane closures could last into Wednesday night. Alt route is 85 business. This same area had lane closures last week due to cracks in roadway.
why is I-85 in Greenville Cty not cement slab? the asphalt re-surfacing of I-85 in Grenville Cty is poor and the painted traffic lines are terrible - hardly straight on I-85 south near the airport exit (see the left hand lane; who the heck painted those lines?)

Probably a variety of reasons but the primary reason for no concrete is probably money. It ain't cheap and the timelines are long. This is why you typically you see asphalt to concrete conversions done as part of widening projects, not a job by itself. A lot of what you have to do accommodate concrete conversion is typically done as part of a widening. Grading, temporary lanes etc. As for the asphalt quality its possible that an additional layer as asphalt will be put down as part of the final phase of the interchange project, but don't know for sure.

Never mind...got delayed this morning due to "unforeseen circumstances" and now this afternoon SCDOT says they've moved work with contractor to January as to not disrupt holiday travel.
Third times the charm? i85 North mm77 (right before 85business merges back with i85) will have right & center lanes closed for repairs Tuesday Jan3 6pm for up to 5 days. Alt route use 85 business.
From press release (found here: http://info.scdot.org/PressRelease/L...t.aspx?ID=2441 ):
"SCDOT has added a “Project Viewer” to the agency’s website (South Carolina Department of Transportation) that allows anyone to “point and click” on an interactive road map of South Carolina. The user can choose between a list of project types (resurfacing, widening, bridge replacements, etc.) all across South Carolina, or a list of projects within a certain area of the state."
is the current paving work on 385 between downtown and 85 part of the gateway project?
they are doing some serious work on the right lane heading out of downtown.
That's a separate rehab project. Anything north of Roper Mtn Rd is separate from the gateway project.
