It's a possibility that it is linked to the movie as a promo of some sort, but I would ask why this particular area of Greenville? Witnesses said these clowns were trying to bribe the kids into the woods with money. That doesn't sound kosher...but it is something that Pennywise might do.
If that's what it is.. I think they're picking bad areas to do it in.. It's been years since I was down in that area, but Fleetwood Manor was not exactly a great area.
Maybe the clowns and the smiley face billboards are tied together.. lol
This is likely a hoax, the more I read about it. People (not directed at anyone here) need to stop reading just the headlines then running with it and taking the story as 100% true.
There still hasn't been any evidence of this, and the people that keep calling 911 refuse to give their names. Also it's 2016, camera phones are everywhere. So these people that keep calling 911 really can't snap a quick pic on their shiny Iphone 6S?

The whole thing just smells fishy.
I agree with you 100%. I think the first sighting on the 21st or so was real, and possibly, more than likely a perv, but these latest ones, nah. Especially the one last night.

I tend to agree with you here. The story has been picked up by major news organizations...USA Today, LA and NY Times, etc...
Apparently now kids have reported to police that they in fact chased two clowns who ran through a fence and jumped into a Honda Civic used as a getaway car. I am glad the situation is being taken seriously though I have to ask if this whole thing is proven to be a prank and no clowns were in fact ever sighted who would be held responsible? I would hope those who lied would all be held responsible for waisting police resources though I can't imagine charging that many people.
This is super silly, but it could be worse. Greenville is trending I guess globally it seems, and while it's not for something great, at least its not like "lead in water, city hid the truth" or "Greenville gun violence kills 40 over holiday weekend" or "Greenville engulfed in race riots" or "F5 tornado wipes Greenville off the map."
I feel like its a hoax and I hope someone comes out and says it soon. This was frightening/hilarious at first, but now it's annoying. This feels like a joke/meme that has gotten stale and everyone has just dragged on...
