I get so confused and disheartened by the medical system............I have been having progressivelyworse knee pain and ambulation problems over the past year or more.....it has gotten really bad over the past 4 or 5 months and presently I have dificulty walking to the car....going up or down 3 or 4 stairs. I went to a knee clinic (chiropractic) and he said my knee had advanced artero arthritis and it was beyond what he could treat. I went to my regular doctor this Mon. and he supposedly looked at the xray from the chiropractors office and did a brief exam of my knee.......and said it wasnt nearly as bad as I was told and that surgery would be several years off. He ordered more xrays and prescribed a medication that seems to be very helpful.....at least 50% inprovement in the two days I ahve been on it. I have an appointment to see him in a month.

Today I had a call from a lady in his office.....who said the Dr told her I could go ahead and schdule my surgery. ??????? He never suggested that.....didnt refer me to any one......and hasnt explained his thinking/diagnosis to me. I am at a loss but need to have more of a referal than a stranger from his office on the phone!!!!!! Grrrrrr.

Elston, I think you are my brotha from another mutha sometimes. My knees are like yours. One is a bit worse than the other, with osteoarthritis. I go to an orthopedic specialist.
I have had multiple cortisone shots, which work. Euflexxa shots, which worked the first time, but not the last time, and I take an NSAID called diclofenac for pain.
Anyway, I, like you, am in that nebulous place between not ready for knee replacement and being unable to go through life in a normal way. No way would I have a knee replacement until a specialist has tried everything else first.
If I were you I would get me to a good ortho group, and be evaluated by a guy who does knees all day, every day.

I agree! Do your research elston--look for reviews. I talked to a lady at the "Y" who had a similar problem as mine, got the surgery and said it is terrific although the rehab was a real bugger. She has 2 very small scars where they did the surgery. I need to run into her again and get the name of her doctor. I like to see what kind of work they have done. That's the point where I am at now. Ahhh, the golden years!

One thing I've learned in my old age is you need to steer your own medical ship, because nobody else will.

I don't understand why your doctor told you that your knee surgery is "several years off" but then has his secretary call and schedule you for surgery? Somethin's up in Sweden with these going's on, elston. Get a 2nd and maybe a 3rd opinion on this, for sure.

I would say another opinion is needed. Sure can't hurt. Hope you get this worked out my friend! Like you I find it difficult not to be able to trust my family doctor as we did in years past. The newer fast lane is not always the best!
My girlfriend at work is one of the groomers and offered to do my dogs for no charge after the grooming shop closes. Can't say why but I am nervous about taking my babies in but they really need a good bath.....and such a nice offer from my friend. I wish BuBu's eyes were better but the vet said it would not be a problem. I had to pick up some antibiotic eye drops for him yesterday because they are so red. I just hope they help. Work today--please keep BuBu, Bella and me in your thoughts for this afternoon. It's another step for me...taking both my dogs at the same time anywhere is new for me...my girlfriend is going to come and help me load them in the car--hope they fit!

Maybe it is just a miscommunication between your doctor and his staff. The next logical step would be for him to refer you to a specialist to be evaluated, not necessarily operated on.

This I believe!!!

It took me many years to get my father to stop consuming stuff WITH ASPARTAME as it was making his heart worse,it brought on diabities and I he just wouldnt listen to me.......... It hurt me inside!!!!! -- He called me crazy,etc.....

After his heart procedure DIDNT WORK and he had a 2nd one,HE STOPPED DRINKING ALL ASPARTAME CRAP..... He still uses stuff with SUCRALOSE though which is just as bad.... (In different ways)

I hope its not too late..... I hope I helped him IN TIME!!!!!! -- I love my dad and my mom VERY MUCH!! -- They laugh @ me,call me names,etc........ Its hard living with people in the elites control!!! (They wont listen to anything but MSM crap)

CYN: Im glad you were able to get to the Y,I havent gone there in along time....... I love to swim!!

GENTLEARTS: Im sorry knees arent well

ELSTON: I dont blame you...For the most part THE MEDICAL SYSTEM IS NOT ON OUR SIDE!! (They are in business)

CYN: You are right,do your OWN research.... Dont let others fill your mind with what THEY WANT YOU THINKING!!

Peace and love everyone
