No work today. My boss is very concerned about the lack of business right now and even mentioned less hours to me and the other girl yesterday. I told him I NEED the hours and would have to consider another job if he has to take more hours from me. I sure don't want that. Please keep positive thoughts that I won't lose any more hours. I am having a hard time staying positive right now. I just hope it's only the newness of the new store and things will get back closer to normal soon!
Have a blessed day!

The large franchise stores drive the smaller stores out of business.....its sad. Truvalue and ACE hardware drive out the locally owned family hardware.....big drugstores close up the locally owned drug stores......and now it sounds like the big pet outlets are doing the same. There was a town in NH that fought back when RITEAID tried to open a drug store and take the customers from the family owned pharmacy.....the locals started a bumper sticker campaign "Rite Aid Wrong Town" and the franchise moved.

Sometimes people try the newest thing, but then come back to the familiar. I know that I am always disappointed by Petsmart. Our local independent pet store, "Tailspin", does a great business despite the Petsmart.

Anyway, are you putting yourself first, Cyn? Did you put in an application?

A huge problem I am struggling with my dear gentlearts--putting myself first. My therapist is really working on me with that but I've spent many years putting myself in the back.....changes take time and I just look forward to the day I can think of myself as "first".

Elston--I love that story how the town fought back....not sure we could get away with it here. Something to think about though!

"RiteAid Wrong Town" was such a catchy slogan.......this was in a town with a coordinated business district....signage standards and colonial archecture.....and Rite Aid wanted permission to put in a big store with aluminum and plate glass ..... typical of big box stores.......and the owners of the store that was already serving the community ..... was well known and respected....part of the community.

Our town is nothing like that, sadly. I can just pray our customers will see we offer not only better prices but we "know" them and their needs. We'll see.....

Are your prices competitive?......usually the big franchise stores can undersell the competition....at least long enough to drive them out of business.

I am hoping for the best for you and your store. Are the other employees putting in apps elsewhere?

For the most part these jobs where I work are used my young adults while going to college. Once they graduate they move on. That is happening with a couple of the girls soon. We actually have lower prices and we do price matching but PetsMart has a huge variety. Of course being new they have so many specials on and coupons....just hope when that is over we will get many of our regular customers back.
Work today--hope everyone has a blessed day!
