Dove hunting has officially kicked off the Fall hunting season for me for the last 35 years. Its a huge social event where about thirty friends and family get together for a Hunt and BBQ. I know many hunters are already in the field bow hunting for deer right now. For me though, the dove opener has always been a some what romanticized way of officially ringing in the Fall Hunt. Kind of like the first grape harvest of the year for the Fall Harvest Season.

Anyone else goin Dovin ?

September 1 through October 23 for the first split of the season in the Texas Central Zone. I make at least one appearance every year, but early teal tends to make a mess of my dove hunting and the good shooting is generally gone by October in the areas I usually hunt.

Wanna get angry about something? Watch this:

It's old, but still has an impact on me...

Around here, if you don't show up with a considerable shooting party (so as to get enough doves to make up a meal for even 2) (many guys will cheerfully give you their game bag contents if you will clean them) if you don't do this on the first day or 2 of the dove season, there is not much point.

Here it starts September 1, I don't know if I can get time off or not. I don't pay much attention to when the season closes, the doves disappear completely several weeks before the last legal day to hunt them.

If you only have a half-dozen doves in the game bag, that's not much meat really. I guess you could add the dove meat to some other kind of bird meat in a soup or stew...

BBQ Dove breast Kebobs is how we cook them after a shoot. Add sides and some beer and there is plenty to go around. Good Luck everyone.

Here in NorCal Ferret it starts Sept 1 for the first half of the split season and runs 15 days.
