Went there in January with information from Hampton Roads "Best Of..." and went to Ynot Pizza in VA Beach and was very dissapointed. Small slices, tomato sauce wasnt that great, that you'd find on Pizza Huts 'Pizza Mia' pizza. Whats the best there is? If you tell me Ynot then I will shoot myself.

I tried Ynot pizza and agree that it was the quality of Pizza Hut or Domino's. There was a forum a few months back about the validity of "The Best of Hampton Roads" and general consensus was that it's a marketing ploy. Stella's Gourmet Pizza on Pleasure House Road has great pizza.

Try Cogan's on Colonial Ave. in Ghent in Norfolk.......they have different types of sauces to chose from and all kinds of speciality pizzas and I think they have NY style as well. One of the best pizza places in the area in my opinion....

Jimmy's Pizza (this guy IS italian) on shore drive at the foot of the lesner bridge. I am not a NY Pizza fan and I even thought it was good. Not into the thick crust stuff.

Default Atlas Pizza

Atlas Pizza is my favorite. The kind of slice you can fold up.
It's in Chesapeake on the corner of Greenbrier and Kempsville Road. I think they're closed on Mondays.

There's also an Italian pizza place on Kempsville and Indian River as well. There's a Greek Place in Ghent call Orapax that has awesome pizza as well.

My experiences regarding NY style pizza in VA Beach:

1. Ynot - great NY pizza, though the pizza can tend to be overdone/underdone slightly - it happens here and there. There are 2 locations, Kempsville and Great Neck. I prefer the Great Neck location..very friendly vibe, and they also have great desserts (try the chocolate knock-out cake)

2. Sal's Bella Italia - this is on VA Beach Blvd next to Wannabe's Karaoke (nearest the Lynnhaven exit). Run by an Italian family, and very very good NY style pizza. When it's cooked right, it's perfect, though they sporadically run into the same problem as Ynot with the cooking time. Watch out though, cause there are lots of "Sal's" and "Bella's" in the city, and most of them are terrible.

3. Primo Pizza - at Baxter and Princess Anne - gets my vote for most consistent NY pizza. I really like this..the pepperoni is very meaty and flavorful. Downside is service, the counter service people always seem to be a little indifferent, and delivery can take an eternity. Great pizza, though.

Primo's
Ynot
AnaRosa's in Chesapeake- on volvo, just east of Greenbrier.

Not sure the name, but another favorite of some good friends of mine (from NY) is in Chesapeake, near the Hickory Home Depot/animal hospital. There is a wawa right there and a Wendy's.

One day I had the same question as you did, and just got on Va Beach Blvd and drove looking for one.

I wound up at Boulevard Pizza, near the Va Beach Blvd/Lynnhaven intersection, and they actually had some fantastic pizza. It's the best I've tried in the area. Far better than Ynot. I also like California Pizza Kitchen, but wouldn't rate it as the best.

Primo is good. They have a nice crust, but usually I get mine par-baked and bake it at home.
