For 42 years Thalia Shell has been there selling gas and now a Walgreens is taking it's place. I got my car inspected there for many years, bought lots of gas and enjoyed the landscaping including the little train.

This kills me.

The comments are exceptional.

That corniest of corny "live/work/play environment" that city council reportedly uses as their justification to quash the ma & pop Shell station, and now to implant a Walgreen's clone, leaves me doubled-over.

Not surprised at all. I actually stop in that station often as it is the only one in that neighborhood left. The other "pit-stop" station is okay, but lacks the intimate feel of the Thalia Shell, which has that "mom and pop" feel to it.

A Walgreens though? I tell you, CVS and Walgreens is taking over Hampton Roads. May as well put a hundred Duane Reade stores in and give us that upscale, "high-end" pharmacy feel they have in NYC. Is that the best they could do?

Has it underperformed, or does the City actually think it would be a better fit for this area?
