Has anyone on here worked with/used this company? They seem pretty nice and organized via e-mail, but I'd be interested in hearing from former clients.

Mahalo!

Hawaiian Airlines recommended that we use Akonapet pet movers last February, we did and now we highly recommend. Very pro, and we will always refer to Akonapet for any advice or help. Hawaiian Airlines and Akonapet made our move from Vermont a heck of alot easier than we expected! When they say no quarantine, its true..our 2 cats, and shepard, went home with us the day they arrived!!

Thats called Direct Release. The majority of people use Direct release when they travel with pets, its nothing special, and you don't need to pay anyone for that service, you can do it yourself. I do recommend people use a pet facilitator if they are overwhelmed with the moving, but Direct Release isn't special, its just one of the options availble to everyone. And your pets did undergo the quarantine.

Smile Shipped my dogs

Island pet movers shipped my 4 dogs and a cat from Little Rock to Honolulu including my Giant Alaskan Malamute in July. Kari was easy to work with, picked everyone up, and ensured that they had a chance to potty before going to the kennel. I asked her about the bankruptcy on the BBB, and there was a mix-up with another company with a similar name, Island Movers. If you look at the BBB now, there is no listing of any financial/complaints. Regardless, she was inexpensive, handled the entire quarantine process for everyone, and took great care of my puppies. I will use Island Pet Movers when I need to take them back to the mainland.

I shipped 4 dogs and a cat with her. Tank, the Giant Alaskan Malamute, needed a special crate and she coordinated everything including all of the quarantine stuff.

Ahhhh this thread is easing my mind. I'm considering a move to Maui May/June 2012 but am so worried about my 7 month old puppy (at least she'll be a year by the time I move).

But trying to coordinate all portions of the move and worried about stuff, vehicle, new place/transportation, etc and I was already feeling overwhelmed.

One thing of concern, it says on the Hawaiian airlines site that they won't move pets over the summer months I guess due to temps. Is that a normal thing or are other airlines flexible?

What is the avg cost to move a dog when it's all said and done? I'll be moving from San Diego if that makes a difference. Trying to factor in all costs and timing.

The Direct Release Program is not very difficult - a couple of rabies shots, a blood test, and a health check within 10 days of leaving. It is at least a 120 day wait period from the blood test. I'd get started very soon if you want to go in May.

The other airlines tend to be as strict as Hawaiian moving pets in the heat - there has been a lot of bad press.

It is $250 to check your pet in the baggage hold on Hawaiian. You need to get your ticket and reserve the spot for the pet when making the reservation to make sure there is room.

So is there basically no chance of moving a pet during the summer months? (again, from San Diego). That will really put a damper on my move if I have to wait until fall next year as my lease is up in june here.
