I receive care at Tripler and have mixed reviews but in general better than I have had with MTFs on the Mainland. Tripler is a huge hosptial and a teaching hospital with just about every specialty and sub specialisty you can imagine. For the most part, its world class care, although different departments staffing procedures are difficult. I never have an issue with Family Practice, being seen and getting messages to my doctor. OB/GYN on the other hand, is a nightmare getting through to them at all, much less getting past the front office staff. They are for the most part, miserable and incompetent. Once you do though, the doctors and nurses are great.
With Standard, you have the option to go to civilians, which you may want to do if you run into issues with Tripler.

I am currently under the care of OB/GYN and will have surgery this Thursday. I have never had an issue reaching my Doctor or Nurse. The front staff has been helpful and compassionate.
I think that it is definitely possible for two people to have completely different experiences with the exact same staff. Why this happens I will not speculate upon, but it is certainly worth a shot to see how one feels about care received at Tripler.
DH is in active duty I honestly don't care for Tripler. I switched to Tricare standard just so my son can be seen elsewhere. It's hard for me to say that because quite a few friends of ours in the military are doctors there, but my toddler was misdiagnosed 3 times by 3 different pediatricians. My dad is only a GP and each time I called him and explained the symptoms he already knew what's with my son, and told me to go to ER instead. Sure enough his diagnoses were always right. I just lost faith and won't recommend Tripler, but it's my subjective opinion.
