My gf and I are planning to move to Hi after she finishes paramedic school in August and she has a job lined up. Well I don't so I was wondering what is the average wage or earnings. I make 18 dollars an hour after working ten years in the business and have most of my experience with Land Rovers. Although currently I switched jobs to work for better money and hassle at a Jeep/dodge/chrysler dealership. I live in Albany, NY. Although getting my tools shipped won't be fun but a necessary evil.

Kona Nissan's Service Center charges people $115 an hour for labor but I have no idea how much of that the tech gets. I know there have been postings in the paper looking for dealers and service people on the Big Island but most say pay depends on experience. Where will her job be? Try looking at the classifieds for that area and craigslist. You could always call the area Land Rover dealer too.

$115 an hour is pretty much average for a dealership.
They have to pay for the land, building, electricity, management, advertising, inventory (parts) in stock, etc. Service advisors get paid commission on everything they write as well. Start adding up the $ and $115 isn't as bad as it seems.

Techs will make anywhere from $15-$30 per hour but realize that it is based upon book rate. If the book rate for a job is 4 hours and the tech does it in 2 - the tech gets paid for 4 hours. Conversely, if the tech takes 8 hours - he only gets paid for 4.

A tech on Oahu at a busy dealership will make more than a tech on an outer island.
