Did you utilize the process servers? I was put off by their lackadaisical attitude and they would have put me in the red with their fees.
You the landlord can serve the tenant directly. Unless you live off island, process servers are not needed - if the tenant is so dodgy in the unit, can't be found at work by a process server if necessary - you've got bigger problems than the expense of a process server to stake out the unit, which they do for an hourly rate.

The landlord cannot serve the tenant. It has to be a disinterested third party. Were you happy with the process server? I believe they would have taken weeks longer and cost over a thousand dollars.
Certainly on Oahu - the landlord can serve the tenant - it doesn't even have to be person (like the door but I'd also send a certified letter). A process server has to be a disinterested 3rd party if you use them.

The notice to appear is part of how easy it is to evict in Hawaii.

I looked at the 2013 edition and it does not address this. Can you point out the page number? Otherwise my advice is directly from the court.

3. tomorow i will go court and file the eviction form.
In your link it is page 20 under failure to pay rent.
Don't confuse eviction with small claims.
Page 20 is is about tenant remedies if the landlord cannot provide the place ready for occupancy at the beginning of the lease?????
Evictions do not go through small claims. We are talking about evictions.
