I think if you take into consideration the number of young, unmarried, over testoseroned military kids that are over here, it's really not a suprise that there are many prostitutes. And Happy Valley, on Maui, got that name from the second world war, guess why??????????
When I was in Oahu a few years back, I was shocked how many were working right smack in the middle of waikiki where all the tourists hang out. There were literally hundreds, most looked as though they could grace the cover of a fashion magazine. So very sad to see so many beautiful women throwing away their lives like that. It was also really annoying to many of the tourists who were with their wives or even their familes to see hundreds of scantly dressed prostitutes right in your face. The police seem to totally ignore it for the most part. I think they actually allow it to go on, as I'm sure it does wonders to boost the local single male tourist cliental.
I watched a documentary type show one evening about Hookers in Honolulu. It also talked about the growing number of transvestite prostitutes in the area.
