Heh. I think that can be said of many airlines. Unless one is lucky enough to not have to be shuffled into the cattle class and gets to sit near the front of the plane.....
I like southwest customer service and attitude but their planes are painful for anything longer than a few hours. Nice to have option for biz or first class when on vacation.

another term for passengers is "self-loading cargo" in the airline industry.

Very true. Although non-us airlines (like Eva or Cathay) tend to provide better experiences...
I'll admit I'm looking forward to the opportunity of traveling back and forth from mainland/to Hawaii via SW, likely cheaper (at least cancelable). Not a fan of the every-man-for-himself seating, but the flight crew are often entertaining. More options are a good thing...
I know that Aloha is no longer in the business, but I listed those airports as they were considered within range of B737 in the year 2000.
OAK 2,409 mi
SMF 2,463 mi
BUR 2,562 mi ~ no longer flown by anyone
RNO 2,573 mi ~ no longer flown by anyone
SNA 2,584 mi ~ no longer flown by anyone
SAN 2,614 mi
LAS 2,763 mi
PHX 2,918 mi
In the years since 2000 the following mainland airports have been added by any type of aircraft (less than 4000 miles)
SFO 2,399 mi
SJC 2,417 mi
PDX 2,603 mi
SEA 2,678 mi
SLC 2,994 mi
DEN 3,365 mi
DFW 3,785 mi
IAH 3,904 mi
MSP 3,972 mi
Quote:
Las Vegas
Hawaiian Airlines Las Vegas
Allegiant Air Las Vegas
Boyd Vacations Hawaii Charter: Las Vegas
Delta Air Lines Seasonal: Las Vegas (begins December 21, 2017)
Less than 4000 miles from HNL
Hawaiian Airlines Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose (CA),
American Airlines Los Angeles, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix–Sky Harbor
Delta Air Lines Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Salt Lake City, Seattle/Tacoma Seasonal: San Francisco, Portland (OR)
United Airlines Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Houston–Intercontinental,
Virgin America Los Angeles, San Francisco
Hawaiian Airlines Seattle/Tacoma, Oakland, Phoenix–Sky Harbor, Portland (OR),
Alaska Airlines Anchorage, Oakland, Portland (OR), San Diego, San Jose (CA), Seattle/Tacoma
So the question is will Southwest forge new routes or will they try to take over existing business. While Hawaii - Vegas is a very popular route, it seems unlikely that Southwest will form partnership with casinos.
LAX is already well covered by five airlines already.
Potential new routes could be DAL (if not too far), ABQ, TUS or LGB.

Yup, more competition is always good I feel like.
Wow, didn't even know Eva did passenger travel....I had thought they were a cargo airline....

Well EVA Air's parent was and is the Evergreen Group - which is maritime shipping. Of course they do a lot of cargo business given that Taiwan is an export based economy.
Other analogies -
HK's Cathay Pacific - part of the Swire Group - also had a shipping/cargo/transportation heritage, but now does a lot of property development

Korean Air - owned by the Hanjin Group
The more you know. Thanks for the info. And makes sense as many of these companies are parts of larger conglomerates that also do other business as well.
