Unfortunately, you're likely right. The ONLY positive coming out of this is that oahu seems to be pressing forward. Ige obviously has never taken charge of anything meaningful, somehow rose to his position being a complete spineless muppet. Government, like private industry, like classrooms, like pretty much any cohesive group needs to have an organizational structure. The more clear the lines of command and superior/subordinate relationship, the better. If you attempt to create an organizational structure where everyone has equal say and can veto each other or make up their own rules, you have CHAOS.

Normally if you have a leader this incompetent that don't want to make the big boy/girl decisions, they end up stepping down or getting fired. Unfortunately we have a leader, totally unwilling to lead and unwilling to step down. Worse, he's placing his buddies, equally as incompetent in positions of power as his personal yes-men. Hundreds of years ago, they did have a solution for this type of leader.

OGG is a go for the Pre-Travel program. LIH is a go, but want to reinstate quarantine if cases average 5 or higher over 7 days which seems ridiculously low. HNL a go - you are out of luck if you want to visit Big Island without quarantine.

Kim says he's been misinterpreted. He's looking for permission to double test Big Island inbound travelers and claims to have secured a large supply of the tests. Ige doesn't want to tap into testing capacity for residents, so Kim must demonstrate this won't be the case or the plan will be rejected.

If the people in charge of testing on Big Island would be selective and judicious in these secondary tests, as Dr. Fauci has suggested, it may work out. Instead of double testing everyone, just select those travelers most at risk of carrying the virus such as the younger crowd more likely to be out and about, or perhaps every fifth person coming from a hot state-something like that.

That's already part of the plan.

Lt. Governor Josh Green announced a plan to create a post-arrival surveillance testing program that will attempt to test 10% of visitors each day to paint a clear picture of how effective the pre-travel tests are at weeding out positive COVID cases.

Interesting idea to see how effective the screening is going to be.

No providing results (unless asked), and not requiring quarantining, or presumably contact tracing of any positive results seems like it could be problematic. I understand why they want to do it that way. But, I do wonder if they have fully thought through the medical ethics and/or legal liability issues of that plan.

Maybe so. Green was wise to solicit Dr Fauci’s input on managing the virus in Hawaii. Perhaps that also made an impression.

I don't care for green, i think he's mostly grandstanding preparing to run for governor in 2 years. But at least he appears far more willing to lead than spineless ige. "Lead, follow, or get the **** out the way." Ige needs to go.

Just what the hell would you do if you were the Governor? Quick to judge, but, given that there is really no 100% accurate, readily available, quick read out inexpensive test available, how is he supposed to react? Going to **** off a percentage of the population regardless. Give the guy a break.

Can tell you're not in any sort of meaningful management position, or at least shouldn't be if you need to ask that question.

The governor's JOB is to be the executive officer and head of state. He is responsible for making the tough calls and decisions at high level for the state, for the good of the state. He needed to set the pace and direction of the covid response. In this specific instance, it would mean mandating the opening plan, then work with the mayors to support their respective counties to make the reopening successful. For this entire crisis, his entire spineless punting of responsibilities, non-responses, "suggestions" or "recommendations", lack of decisiveness, deliberately obstruction of transparency, flip flopping on issues, etc etc only led to mass confusion and chaos. He is not ranked dead last in governors in the country for no reason.
