Three days from implementation, details of state’s tourism relaunch still murky
Two weeks ago, in a session of the House Select Committee on Covid-19, Rep. Scott Saiki called out Gov. David Ige’s administration for its lack of clarity on plans to test travelers ahead of their arrival in an effort to re-launch the state’s tourism industry.
Three days before Hawaii is set to officially re-open, not much has changed.
“I’ve jokingly said sometimes you just got to turn on the hose to figure out where the leaks are, and I suspect this is gonna be the case,” said Hawaii Pacific Health CEO Ray Vara. “I think a lot of people have been working really hard checking all the boxes that they see in front of them that need to be checked. Clearly, we still have some gaps in understanding what the actual policy is going to be.”
Owned and operated my own company, for 20 years, right here in Hawaii. Way to talk down to people po'o kukae.
You manage and supervise people, yet you think ige's actions is leadership and management material? I will apologize, but say that I'm very very surprised. We will have to agree to disagree on this one. If there was ever a dummy's guidebook on how you should not manage, Ige's poofy eyed face would be on the front cover. Just my opinion of course.
October 13th, two days before reopening and apparently no Covid-19 testing is available on the mainland at the "testing partner" locations. Who'da guessed it!

I head to Vegas Oct 22 - I did see plenty of CVS/Minute Clinic options near the strip with times available.
My backup is testing at SFO at the rapid test site in the international terminal. I prefer rapid testing - I don't prefer the rapid testing price, CVS is about 1/2 the price of the rapid test.

My wife had to get tested. She was given the rapid test and then told to go to another room for the nasal swab. When she asked the technician why she was getting a second test, she was told that the rapid test is ony 67% accurare. If true, it makes me wonder how effective any of these testing protocols will be in lowering potential infection rates from travelers.
I now have a reservation from Newark to HNL in early November, It stops over in Denver. I should probably switch up to SFO if they have the tests working now.... These testing protocols/locations suuuure are progressing quickly though. Hard to tell what the hell to do.

You should do everything possible to get tested in NJ/NY because if you can't get tested on a layover at SFO you are stuck
I've been checking on it. Must must must do whatever it takes to avoid any f'ing quarantine.
