There is quite an assortment of forum initials which show up frequently.
DH Darling Husband
DD Darling Daughter
DS Darling Son
DDIL Darling Daughter in Law

Some websites and groups use OM or Old Man for husband and YL or XYL or Young Lady for wife.
etc.

Also other initial sets for different sayings such as:
IMHO In My Humble Opinion
LMAO Laughing My A** Off
ROTFLMAO Rolling On The Floor Laughing
TTYL Talk To You Later

Some of these are sort of semi-specific to certain sites such as:
DNGI Do Not Get It
PMs Precious Metals
SSS Shoot, Shovel & Shut up

Originally it was to make things quicker and shorter to type. Now the bandwidth is wide enough that it doesn't take a long time to send information but folks still use these for texting. It is also somewhat similiar to the pidgin English used in the islands, sort of a badge of belonging and as a way to be part of a group.

You forgot my favorite, actually it's my least favorite and it makes me cringe when I see it : LOL. It means laugh out loud.

I sometimes put in my messages LQ (it means laughing quietly), but nobody gets it.

Yes, I've often wondered if people actually laugh out loud or if they just write that they do. I've never written that dreaded one. If I feel I have to make that kind of remark, I just put "ha ha".

As for the original poster, don't feel bad. I had no idea what a DH was either for a long time. I would never call my husband a "dear husband" either. He's just...my husband. Maybe I type fast, but I don't tend to abbreviate things very often. Much less confusing that way.
