Bruddah, do you mind sharing your cu. ft and lbs being shipped?
I asked for a quote for 8000lbs (which is probably a lot for a 3br/1ba 950 sq. ft. house). The CSR told me the price is for the container and weight would not make a difference in the cost.

No sure who you're asking, but we have not decided. Pasha actually ships from San Diego and we can put our car and household in the container. We've used Matson only for our car and have no complaints, but we would have to drive up to Long Beach to ship. Right now, we're focusing on downsizing - BIG TIME!!

There is absolutely no reason to do that unless the car is worth a fortune, because the way the tariffs are set up, you will pay the shipping for the car + the fee for the container either way.
This is easy to overlook, but if the container is say... $3,000 to ship, and the car is $1,075, then putting the car inside the container will still cost you $3K + $1,075, and it makes the container MUCH harder to pack.

Yes, unfortunately, I'm aware of the cost. We plan to ship our car, and the cost will be $1,075 no matter who we use. Additionally, we will be shipping household goods, so no matter what it is going to cost us between $3500 and $5000.
Not our first Rodeo, moving to Hawaii I mean, and I don't plan on buying another car (this one is paid for and a fairly new Infiniti). We have nice "stuff" and even though we've gotten rid of quite a bit of stuff, I'm not getting rid of any more things nor are we planning on storing, since we are moving back for good. Our retirement plans and budget does not include the unnecessary expense of car and furniture purchases.
But your point is understood and is valid for many moving to the islands!
