When "TexasCasey" mentioned "ohana rentals" in his/her excellent post, the reference is to a small dwelling that's another part of a family residence. On the east coast, they're often called "mother-in-law suites." An ohana can be attached to the main residence or separate from it on the same lot. They're fairly common on all the islands, as many people here live with extended family close by.
