Jim Rizzuto's books will have enough information to get you started and then you'll be too busy fishing to update a web page. I should get my gear tidied up and go out and annoy the papio sometime soon. Oh well, it's dark so not much fishing now.

I have found the fisherman, with one now, are more private here than Alaska or WA, They don't want to share, I should say with the unknown. Good book though Good luck!! I will share though if you find locals and share your fish (fishermen or older not fishing) they will typically give you good tips and friendship. Use your judgement.

You don't consider yourself a real local yet? How long do you think it will take?

I am not going to answer for Mdand3boys
but for myself I learned long ago on the base of Mt Rainier from a cartoon.

Old man carring basket of apples/vrs fly fisherman asking "so really how long does it take to be a local?" old man answered " Well I would be third generation and they almost accept me now!"

I personally would give it that long..... without assumptation

I don't know how Jim finds out about all these fish stories! He must have a much better coconut wireless than I do. He's the main fish story writer we have around here, though, and he keeps track of all sorts of fishy things.

Consider this. How many "born here" people participate on this forum compared to everyone else? 2%, maybe? How about you? Your profile says New YorK.

I think a HI fishing forum would be a great idea.
We don't need to share fav fishing spots, but we can always give each other tips and share stories

I have come across locals fishing along the sea cliffs in Puna, walked up and started a conversation. In every case, I ask if they are catching anything where they are. I always get the same basic response, "No, I just like to throw the line out. Nothings biting." Yeah... right...
