You know we're on *islands* -- right? And there's more than one? Where are you headed? Oahu? Hawai'i (Big Island)? Maui? Kaua'i? Lana'i? Moloka'i? We can't really help if we don't know where you are.

Have a safe trip. And welcome!

Default farmers market

aloha

hate to burst da bubble

but unless its from a true farmer ...who owns and farms themselves

on maui e v e r y t h i n g else come from one large distributor and one smaller one

my guess is its the same fruit/veggies that costco / safeway etc has everyone gets ...

i was at one ...i asked a few questions ..i was so bummed by the person telling me these crazy lies just to buy a piece of fruit ...i walked away in disgust ...

your way might be different from mine

You certainly got that right. On the BI, you see these people opening the boxes labeled "Product of Mexico" (and other countries) and then trying to claim that they are a farmer. I have also seen more than one "farmer" buying a case of product at the local grocery store with their food stamp/EBT card - then saw them the next day at the farmer's market trying to resell it to gain cash. They also do not report the sales and pay any sales taxes.

If you are in the south end of the island, there's a farmer's market every Wednesday and Saturday in Naalehu. And, yes, I know the people selling there and they do grow the items themselves.

Also a great farmer's market in Hilo. I know it's on Saturday, but not sure about Wednesday.

The Pepe'ekeo Farmer's Market is a new market just north of Hilo. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but have a few online friends who have and are excited about it. Our local Huli Huli guru is a regular there. Here's a link: THE PEPE'EKEO FARMER'S MARKET - Pepe'ekeo, Hawaii

Another new market recently started at Hilo Coffee Mill on Saturday mornings: Hilo Coffee Mill

I second the Hilo farmer's market if you're in the area.

One thing that is different with markets in Hawaii is that many times the best produce (local grown) will be gone within 30 minutes of opening, so arrive early.
