BTW, the doctor said a person can drink coffee for years without adverse affects, then all of a sudden hit a wall and not be able to tolerate caffeine. BTW: I own a coffee shop!
You didn't mention why he wants you to stop. Most likely whatever the problem is there is a NATURAL way to fix it. Last time I checked, caffeine was natural (coffee, cola, etc.,) so most likely it is NOT what is causing the problem. If it is high blood pressure, more likely that sodium chloride is the culprit.

The op talks about panic attacks a couple of posts back. Giving up caffeine is the easiest way to find out if it's the culprit and is a much more natural solution then getting on anti-anxiety meds. Caffeine may be natural but it is still a stimulant and a drug and some people are more sensitive to it's effects then others.

Now that you mention it, about a year ago I began waking in the middle of the night with anxiety attacks. I had always attributed it to perimenopause, but the nervous insomnia diminished significantly when I removed caffeinated drinks and foods from my diet.

I used to drink coffee before and stopped one day completely(I stopped sodas at the same time but those I didn't drink much). I did fine, I thought I would feel tired but that was not the case. It's possible, just find a healthy alternative while you get used to it. It's not as hard as it seems, eventually you won't miss it at all, especially if you know it's not good for your health. I don't owe a coffee shop but I'm around brewing coffee 24/7.

I get cardiac arrhythmias when I drink too much caffeine. So yes... anything more than 1/4 cup of coffee per day is a death sentence to me. But not tea, coke, or decaf. So I try to substitute.

Just another voice to say that decreasing my caffeine helped with my anxiety disorder. One or two cups doesn't make a difference, but three or more definitely aggravates it.
