The major ingredient in this product appears to be soy.

Menopausal Symptoms and CAM: What the Science Says [NCCAM Clinical Digest]

"Soy. The scientific literature includes both positive and negative results on soy extracts for hot flashes. When taken for short periods of time, soy extracts appear to have few if any serious side effects. However, long-term use of soy extracts has been associated with thickening of the lining of the uterus."

'About Phytoestrogens Some botanical products, such as soy and red clover, contain estrogen-like compounds called phytoestrogens. Plants rich in phytoestrogens may help relieve some symptoms of menopause. However, it is uncertain whether this relief comes from phytoestrogens or from other compounds in the plant. Much remains to be learned about these plant products, including exactly how they work in the human body. Doctors caution that certain women need to be particularly careful about using phytoestrogens, especially:
  • Women who have had or are at increased risk for diseases or conditions that are affected by hormones, such as breast, uterine, or ovarian cancer; endometriosis; or uterine fibroids
  • Women who are taking drugs that increase estrogen levels in the body, such as birth control pills; MHT; or a type of cancer drug called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), such as tamoxifen."

The other ingredients in the product are largely unstudied. And there is no guarantee that the substances and doses on the label accurately represent what is really in the product. See here about certain black cohosh products:

Testimonials are worthless. The only ones that get published are the positive ones. you do not hear from the folks who trashed it.

And where do the ingredients come from? China?

I began menopause in my early 40's and my doctor said I needed some hormones so she put me on a low dose birth control pill. I quit taking them after 5 years and immediately began having meltdown hot flashes. Very disturbing since I was always cold. Natural Vitamin E helped me. Occasionally I would quit taking it to see if it really helped and would begin having hot flashes again. It got to where I no longer enjoyed sex (and my husband and I have always had a very active sex life) Finally this past January I started taking Activella and now I'M YOUNG AGAIN!!!! I wish I had started this several years ago. My husband can't believe the difference.
My point---do what works for you!

Hormones. Don't ***** around with herbs, roots, nuts and berries. But don't take premarin: It's made with pregnant horse urine. If you do, and you are around horses, they will look at you funny. Not joking.
