Even though I have done a lot of research, I would really like to hear first hand from anyone who has had a spinal fusion and uses an Inversion Table. I just bought one (not something you can like try out in a store) and will have it up tomorrow, just hoping I didn't waste my money
I just had back surgery on Sept 3 2oo8 I am going to be the first to tell you that I am doing great. I have a spine specialist because to be honesty Neuros scare me. In October 2004 my husband had surgery and he still is not right. He is in pain management because they cut his L4 at the nerve root into. They like to mess with the nerves to much and this is why so many people have continous pain. He has not worked in four years and he has been fighting for his disability this whole time. He is really unable to work, he cant stand walk or sit for more than 5 mins at a time. To make a long story short, then when I was told that I had spondylolthesis he really didnt want me to get it fix I checked out 7 diffrent Neuros before and they all had law suits, pay offs, infractions from the hospitals and pending suits. Well my husband sees a spine specialist now and so I choose to go with him after a long conversation about what he was going to do to me. I had so much trust in him. He made me feel so confident in him and he knows what he is doing. I did it I have rods screws and bone graphs and fused which is what the screws are, at my L3,L4 L5 S1 After all of this I was out of the bed 3 hours after my surgery. I was in the hospital for 3 days. I have been shopping at walmart, driving, cheer practice with my daughter, out to lunch with my mom and I have not taking a pain pill in a week and a half. It was the best thing I have done for myself ever. I dont regret it at all. But I do recommend Dr. Paul Savas of Williamsbrug Va. He has been published in several magizines and books. He was great. My husband is concerning letting him repair the nerve in his back. HE IS THAT GOOD. I see Dr. Savas tomarrow so he take my stitches out and that is the only complaint I have at this time. They are driving me crazy. But that is because my incesion is healing.

Had my Laminectomy on Aug 14th. One week in hospital. First week on things seemed to be better. Swelling of the right leg went done well. Sporadic pain in foot has been diminishing to where I do not have to take my pain pills as often. I do have a return problem with numbness (mild) to the foot only. Still need the cane if I have to walk more then a 100 ft. as the foot goes into dead mode, same with driving any distance (gas pedal). One weird thing is going on. Every day I have a different problem (believe do to nerve stimulation or whatever the DR did in surgery). One day I will feel very good, next two days will have severe pain in both legs from the knee down to the foot where I cannot walk at all, then my hearing is acutely loud (wear hearing aids) told this to technicon yesterday at the VA clinic, tastes buds have gone extra sensitive, whole body feels strangely different then before surgery. I do understand that after two yrs of numbness/pain, feeling better will be different. Every morning I wonder what the day will be like, good or bad, cannot plan anything ahead of time. Reading up on the procedure, do understand that at my age (senior) will have a bearing on my recovery and the nerves have to regenerate out to the fibre ends. Hope this info helps anyone out there, as the surgery did help me considerably. Steve

You're the 1st person I've heard mention the taste buds.
I went in the hospital last November for the morphine pump and came out not being able to handle anything spicy due to it burning my tongue. To this day it still bothers me. This is upsetting because I love spicy food.
I don't really have many good days any more. I don't have a day where I wake up feeling ok. If I want to do something or have to do it (phone calls, doctors) I have to psych myself up for it, then I am down for days.
I love to garden and this is putting a huge dent in my ability to garden. I used to be able to get the pain out of my mind when I gardened but these days I can't. If I work outside I am in extreme pain 2 hours later & ready to puke.
Followup on my Laminectomy surgery. Have mentioned this to a couple of friends but do not speak too much about what happened to me. You may have heard of some people talking about the tunnel and white light at the end. Well, I did not see this but seem to recall a lot of different peoples names were being called out over and over until my name was called real faintly in the background and then I responded. Since then my life has felt different. Strange, real strange. Steve
