That act was due to lawsuits filed on behalf of those who claimed to be injured by the diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus (DPT) vaccine. As a result of those lawsuits, manufacturers halted production, resulting in a vaccine shortage. Public health officials were concerned about the return of epidemic disease so Congress passed that law.
That was thanks to hysteria fed by Oprah and Jenny McCarthy. It seems people would rather believe Oprah than scientists who know what they are talking about. Their crackpot theory was that a mercury compound used as a preservative caused autism. That wasn't true, but the manufacturers removed mercury from the DPT vaccine in 1997. No, there was no reduction in autism cases.
I'm surprised they didn't require you to get a flu shot if you were volunteering in a nursing home - not so much to protect you as to protect the residents!
They mentioned it. I'm not really a formal volunteer. My dad is a resident, and I spend time with anyone who needs it.
Just woke up feel great. Still have a cough, but other than that, I feel awesome. I'm going to relax today, but im definitely doing a little sonething to celebrate!!

I started to get a bad cough & couldn't breathe right, it may have been the flu & was admitted with pneumonia. I never had that before and never thought my cough was this
Folks, don't mess with the flu. If you think you have it, call your doctor. Ideally, you will be tested, but if your community is having a lot of flu, your doctor may want to start medication even without a test.
I can't tolerate things which create a lot of fluid loss. Too much is missing inside to do that and I've ended up in the ER more than once from dehydration. When I got flu shots I got really sick from them so I quit. Only twice in the some fifteen years since have I had the flu. But one was 09. I ended up in the hospital. I know it was that year since I got home about an hour before the memorable Blizzard of 09 hit Oklahoma.
The strain that's predominant here now is that same strain, and I largely don't have anywhere I need to go. I had complicatons from that last time I was sick, and don't want to risk problems from the shot. So I'm avioding people. If I had that strain back then, should I be so worried? Right now, anything causing excessive fluid loss would be a disastor.
I haven't gotten the flu this year, but why do people do people make such a big deal about it? You just just have a little fever and achy muscles for a day or two. Just let it runs it course. People are such babies.

You get the flu and then tell us what a little deal it was. NOT!

I have gotten the flu several times before and it was never a big deal. I felt bad for maybe two days tops. People freak out about the smallest things. Just stay at home and rest.
