It seems trendy, but I've been hearing the 'praises' of being wheat and dairy free. I love to eat (I admit that I LOVE good food) but I would like to try (and hopefully STICK TO) a new healthy way of eating. Does anyone have any hearty GFCF recipes to share....breakfast lunch and dinner? I'll buy a recipe book soon but I would love to hear some ideas on what works for all of you. I've practically eliminated sugar out of my diet so I figure if I can handle that....then maybe I can do this, too!
Well... as someone who is truly allergic to gluten and dairy, I'm happy that it's becoming trendy! Even a year ago it was much harder to find gluten free dairy free foods.
I don't really follow specific recipes, but just pay attention to avoid gluten and dairy. Keep in mind that most soy sauces have wheat as an ingredient. Polenta and quinoa make up a big part of my grain diet and can be eaten for any meal. I make polenta essentially like grits, but I just chop it up and bake it. I've made them with a berry sauce for breakfast and cook rosemary and garlic into them for lunch and dinner meals.
If you tell me more what type of cuisines you like (especially regional), I could give you more ideas! In general, Indian foods are VERY good for gluten free/dairy free/ vegetarian diets!
Thanks. I love thai food but I've put that on hold lately- I'm also a fan of all types of pasta and sauces. Im guilty of sprinkling cheese on everything but I can change that.
Well you don't have to give up pasta- there's all kinds of brown rice and quinoa pastas. Have you ever had spaghetti squash? It's not a pasta-ish texture but I really love to eat it just as I would pasta!
Pad thai is actually do-able and you can make it really healthily yourself if you hunt down the ingredients. It uses rice noodles so if you have an Asian grocery shop nearby, that's a perfect place to go hunting. Rice noodles are some of my favorite foods. You can even make your own curry.
