IMHO, more evidence that esophageal and stomach cancers -- which have been increasing are NOT caused by anything natural.
It is such a scam... doctors tell you that you have "gerd" -- but you have zero symptoms of it... then they give you these drugs that cause cancer (PPIs also do as well) and gastroenterologists get themselves a new boat.

Disgusting.
Almost anything can contribute to cancer: it may not be the very cause but can add to the likelihood we may develop it. The reason so many of these cancers are on the rise has more to do with diagnoses than what we may be eating or drinking.
Because of a prolonged cough in 2014, I went to see a doctor. He attributed the cough to GERD and prescribed me Prilosec/Omeprazole which I took for two years. I began to notice that I was gaining weight after a year of taking it for 1.5-2 years so I decided to stop. The weight and bloated look on my face went away after a few months of being off the Omeprazole but the heartburn returned by was twice as strong as before I had started taking it. So OTC Zanta/Ratidine has been my go to on the weekends when I know I am going to be enjoying a few beers and overeating….I guess these days are over
Either the heartburn’s going to give you esophagal cancer or the pills will give you stomach cancer. Eitherway we’re screwed.
Looks like healthy eating/drinking and watching your weight is the real answer,

Hey you can still buy it on amazon, as of now. Stockpile it for the years to come!
Just kidding, sort of. We will all die eventually so while I’m all for healthy lifestyles once in a while it’s ok to over indulge or eat something sweet or take a Zantac. All things in moderation!
I feel that I have dodged a bullet! I was prescribed one of these GERD meds but I felt like I had lost my marbles. I stopped taking. Years later I was prescribed the second med, but it caused terrible gastric distress and I had to stop. Wow, the acid indigestion rebound effect was truly bad. I never want to go through that again.
I discovered Mylanta. I keep it in my medicine cabinet for night time. I use Gaviscon if I need during the day. Most of my heartburn comes after taking Aleve for pain when I go to the gym. But sometimes it crops up randomly. I think eating less is also a good strategy for me.
Mylanta is wonderful. You can feel it soothing as you swallow it. Gaviscon is portable and easy to chew and swallow whenever you need it.

GERD. Synonymous for WTF. The fallback diagnosis. I'm afraid modern medicine has peaked. It's certainly plateaued.

My hubs tonsil cancer in 2009 was caused by HPV which can lay dormant 50+ years.
I'm not sure if we're seeing an increase in oral cancers; it could be similar numbers that look like more because there's more people alive then 20+ years ago. One of my grandfathers brothers died from oral cancer back in the 1940's.
My hub was treated in Philadelphia and had not had a recurrance. It's been 10 years. HPV+ cancers have a better chance of being cured then oral cancers caused by other things.
I'm so glad I've never taken Zantac. I was on Nexium during my hubs cancer until the insurance didn't want to pay for it any more

How are gastroenterologists going to get themselves a new boat with an over-the-counter medication? Did I miss something? Most medications are pretty cheap even with insurance. It is not like these medications are cash cows.
We REALLY need to quit f'ing around with our immune systems.
If I believed in reincarnation I would hope to come back as a fly on the wall of the intelligent life forms that teach their young about how the humans eradicated themselves.
