For those who say nine hours is too long: OP is asking what 9-hour window, not what nine hours you will be asleep. That means that you try to get your 8 hours, or 6, or 3, sometime during those hours - not that you fill them all with z's.
As some others, I did not sleep 8-9 hours when I was working full time. Now that I am semi-retired and do most of my work in the afternoons, my habits are changed.
I have never been a night person; I start to fade around 9 or 9:30 PM. I probably wouldn't sleep for 9 hours straight, but if I go to bed at 9:30 I usually wake up around 5:30. That works well for me because my husband leaves for work around 6:15, and I have a little quiet time before all the kids get up around 7.
see how you feel as you get older, not to mention: it is highly recommended we all get 8 hours. I know a few people who can manage easily on more like 7 hours. I guess we are all a bit different. For most of us it is: 8 plus hours.
Miss Hepburn: I got at least 8 hours even when I was in college or raising the kids or working full time. I guess our family are all a bunch of sleepy heads. My dad probably would say he never slept much more than 7 hours, but he never considered the hour or so he napped in his chair after dinner.
No, it is not highly recommended that we all get 8+ hours. The recommended amount for adults until age 65 is 7-9 hours, and then it reduces to 7-8 hours for people 65+. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/arti...we-really-need More than 9 hours for adults is not healthy and generally means that a person is suffering from some physical or mental ailment that should be addressed. There are rare individuals who are naturally long sleepers, but that is the exception rather than the norm. I am someone who typically gets 7–8 hours and has difficulty getting more than 8 hours unless I have a night where I get less than 4-5 earlier in the week or I am seriously jet lagged/sick/or otherwise exhausted.
In answer to the OP’s question, I would say my 9-hour window would be 9-6. I’m normally up for work by 5:15, although one day a week I am up by 4:30 (not my favorite). I typically go to bed by 10.
I've slept 9 hrs. most of my life, until perimenopause started disturbing my sleep. I still try to get 7-8 hrs., though it's interrupted in the middle of the night.
