I generally sleep from 9 pm - 5 am and that's perfect for me and my life. I chose 8:30-5:30 because it was the closest. Although on weekends I'd probably prefer a little later of a schedule. But my body wakes me up around 5 am regardless of when I went to sleep these days.
I couldn't sleep nine hours at night if you tried to force me to do it. I'm a six hour a nighter myself. From midnight to 6 am is about perfect for me.
For the last couple of years, I've gone from 7 hours a night to about 8-9 hours. I'm amazed at how sound I sleep and how good I feel, especially when hearing complaints from others who have trouble sleeping.
If you could choose just one 9-hour "bedtime", what would it be?
I don't think I could sleep nine hours at one time. I like to get up about two hours before sunrise and enjoy a good breakfast and if possible a view of the sunrise. I like to take a 1/2 to one hour nap after my mid day meal plus I also want to see the sunset IF possible. Since I have moved to the city this is no longer easy. However unless I win a Lottery I am stuck in the city. Not so happy about it though.

I do have control over my sleep habit as I am long retired. My normal sleep pattern is : in bed about 8pm but watch TV for about 1/2 hour: sleeptime usually 8:30 or so and wake up between 5am and 5:45. It works perfect and I get up, usually fresh and ready to put in another day or whatever rarely nap and feel I get plenty of sleep. Hubby's schedule is an hour later: bed between 9 and 10; up about 6:15 or 6:30.
see how you feel as you get older, not to mention: it is highly recommended we all get 8 hours. I know a few people who can manage easily on more like 7 hours. I guess we are all a bit different. For most of us it is: 8 plus hours.
Miss Hepburn: I got at least 8 hours even when I was in college or raising the kids or working full time. I guess our family are all a bunch of sleepy heads. My dad probably would say he never slept much more than 7 hours, but he never considered the hour or so he napped in his chair after dinner.
