Yes! Great point! Can you imagine that if everyone complied with those precautions how the death toll would be half of what it is now? How we might be able to get back to a new normal sooner?

I am responsible for how I live. I think people who go maskless are ass holes that don't care about others since wearing a mask is about protecting those around you. That is living in the real world.
I agree. Those that have a problem with masks, and won't wear them in public places. They don't care about others that's obvious. I think the not caring would be across the board not just the masks.

They're now working on a 2nd booster shot so you may need 3 shots of vaccine over time.

There was a similar announcement from J&J on a trial for their vaccine that announced only 71 days of antibodies when given the shot.
You stated definitely the vaccines were "ineffective" against the S. African variant. Presumably the Moderna announcement was made today before you posted so why not look to the positive?

This is Dr. Fauci's interpretation as reported in Stat News: “There is a very slight, modest diminution in the efficacy of a vaccine against it [the S. African variant], but there’s enough cushion with the vaccines that we have that we still consider them to be effective,” Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious diseases official, said Monday on the “Today” show.

The Stat News assessment: "The announcement from Moderna gets at a nuance that scientists have been trying to stress as fears around vaccines and variants grew. Both the Moderna vaccine and the immunization from Pfizer-BioNTech produce such powerful levels of immune protection — generating higher levels of antibodies on average than people who recover from a Covid-19 infection have — that they should be able to withstand some drop in their potency without really losing their ability to guard people from getting sick."

Moderna is fully aware of the potential implications: "“These lower titers [of antibodies against B.1.351] may suggest a potential risk of earlier waning of immunity to the new B.1.351 strains,” Moderna said." https://www.statnews.com/2021/01/25/...ctive-variant/

Covid almost certainly will be endemic. Eventual boosters may well be necessary for multiple reasons. It is appropriate to aggressively plan to expand manufacturing capacity that very possibly will be needed for the long-term.

To calculate the efficacy, they compared symptomatic cases from 7 days after the 2nd shot. It is already starting to go down. The subjects have fewer antibodies so more will fall below the level they need to maintain immunity sooner. That's why they're working on another booster shot.

This denial, it's so commonplace these days. "I just don't know how I got it."

Not on C-D, but I had a lady tell me her son-in-law contracted Covid and "he has no idea where he got it." Really? It just came out of nowhere? I thought he probably had a good idea where but he didn't want to tell his MIL he'd been chatting up another woman.

Whenever I go out and that is not often, I come home and write on my calendar where I've been... post office, Safeway etc. So, if I do get covid I know where I've been. With the variants coming, and there are several, I will be not going out at all unless an emergency happens.

I heard that tonight on the news. I tried that once just before I got Covid and it was a waste of time. Some of the items I asked for they never put them in the order. I ended up having to go back to Walmart to buy them. I rather shop for my own groceries, since half the time I never know what I'm buying until I see it in the store. However I only have Walmart to shop at and I hate going there, it is so big and crowded all the time. I don't know anymore what to do or not to do. Its as if the govt and media seem to be keeping us in a steady panic mode. As if we are being controlled.

Sure I'd rather pick my own produce but I had to get real about it.
I think initially there were a lot of kinks to work out with home delivery on the scale that stores found themselves in. I got sketchy stuff in the beginning too but now I get everything I order and I use two different stores. There are usually substitutions as well and I can choose to take the subs or not get the product at all.

It is all what you are willing to subject yourself to by going to a store. When my "anxiety meter" goes on and up I stay home more.
