If you don't trust your doctor, then stop wasting the appointment slot and let someone else use it. There are people who actually need the help of a licensed physician and value their knowledge. You don't have to, but then why bother to go at all?

Just google everything, and follow whatever advice sounds like something you'd be willing to try. Then at least you can't blame someone else when it all goes wrong.

A doctor is no different from any other profession. Each doctor gives different advice.

If you don't like the advice your own doctor is giving you

then get a different doctor.

If neither of these options are suitable

then you have already made your choice to believe what you read on the internet, over someone who actually sees you in person and does an actual examination and looks at your actual tests and results, with the medical experience and education necessary to make recommendations.

So you don't like your doctor's advice.
You think most doctors are untrustworthy.

Therefore - just google everything and try whatever sounds good, and good luck to you on that.

I like my doctors’ advice but they need to do better.

Doctors range dramatically in knowledge, most focus on pharmaceuticals and neglect nutrition, exercise, and supplements

I mean, its just your health.. it makes sense to educate yourself as much as possible, especially if you can avoid long term drug use that usually has side effects

True. There are also docs that focus on natural healing approach. Hardly any docs have fit builds. Some also smoke.

We're not talking about doctors in general though. You are asking about YOUR doctor, and YOUR health situation, and YOUR experience with YOUR doctors, and YOUR opinion about doctors.

YOU don't trust doctors. You like your doctor's advice, but you think he should know more. How YOU came to this conclusion I don't know, since you haven't mentioned that you're a doctor with more education or experience than your doctor.

If you know more than your doctor about medicine, then stop wasting that doctor's time and treat yourself.

I do but at the end of the day. They will prescribe something or they don’t. Many stuff the PCP say is online for us to see.

Geriatric he is.

If it's OK, I'll post my numbers from my cholesterol test I received 30 minutes ago.

Age 53, male, overweight about 15-20 pounds, exercise at gym with weights and cardio 3-4x per week, walk a good amount 4x per week. Non-smoker but have been drinking beer regularly at night. I eat a double burger no cheese about 2 times per week, 2-3 whole eggs per day (apparently eggs are OK). I avoid sugar, and eat little sugary fruit.

Possible caveat:

I ate a low fat breakfast 4 hours and 40 minutes before test (the clinic said it was OK).

I drank beer with friends the night before and had the last one about 15+ hours before.

I think I should retest after a fast of 12 hours and no alcohol/beer for at least 24 hours.....?

Metric system, so sorry. Also, the normal range on the test results below on the right hand side are a little higher than some medical websites I've visited:

My cholesterol: 5.87 - Normal range: 2.9 to 5.2

HDL: 1.36 - normal range: 0.9 to 2.0

LDL: 3.49 - normal range: 0.5 to 3.4

Triglyceride: 2.25 - normal range: less than 2.3

According to these so-called normal ranges my total Cholesterol was listed as high

and also my LDL was listed at (barely) high.

I'll find a non-metric conversion list. Here it is:

Total Cholesterol: 227
My LDL: 134.96
My HDL: 52.59
Triglycerides: 199.3

Any advice, if I need any will be appreciated - should I be concerned?

Of course, I'll start reading verified sources now.

Thanks.
