It's not about looking like a competitive bodybuilder. And that is a common misconception most woman in particular have when it comes to strength training.
I agree with you about the body fat percentage and the amount of muscle. I have always been sooo small my whole life! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it! I cannot gain weight no matter what I do! My mother and my father were both the same way until my mother had children and until my father got out of the navy. My husband has recently lost some weight that he wants to get back so, we have both started going to the gym. I never really went to the gym until now because I have always been uncomfortable being so small and I didn't want people to look at me while I was at the gym and think that I was trying to loose weight. So anyway, like I said, we have started going to the gym and I already see a difference! I am trying to build muscle.. not to look like a body builder, but to gain some weight and stay healthy while doing it. I am soo happy now! I love the gym! lol!
I am trying to like you all, really, seriously, I am, but when people are posting that their weights are 130 and they want to get back down to 100 when I am struggling so much with way more weight than that, I wonder.......am I the ONLY one who really struggles?

That's what I notice here. Everyone seems to be in a pretty normal weight range. I'm 59 years old and currently weigh a little under 220 lbs. at 5'6 1/2. If I can get down to around 170 now and settle there, I will be happy. I recently joined Weight Watchers and find it's the best program for me. I like the point system and the structure and accountability. When I was younger before I had children, my highest weight was 150. Menopause really did a number on my metabolism. Sometimes it seems like the ones who really don't need to lose weight from a medical standpoint, are the ones most concerned about it.
Lowest weight- 113 like some other posters -while going through my divorce.DIVORCE- THE WONDER DIET.
Highest-153 -day I went into labor with 1st child. With the second child I delivered at 128-due to puking guts up. I weighed less than pre-pregnancy until my 30th week!!
Normal weight now days- Varies quite a bit on regular basis. from 119 to 125.
As the years go by, I have a harder time Keeping it in check.
i stand 6' 1" the lowest i have ever weight was 185lbs and you could count my ribs. the most i have ever weight was 225lbs. but, i settle at 220lbs. i feel very scraunny if i am under 200 lbs.
and i have a light athletic build.
BMI is inaccurate for athletes. Sure, the # on the scale doesn't mean much, and that # combined with height doesn't mean anything for some people. But in general those things all together are a pretty good rule of thumb.
I gain weight VERY easily, and it seems like I have always struggled with my weight. The last time I was skinny was when I was 8 yrs old. I haven't been skinny again since. My body type will never be skinny or slender unless I were to just stop eating all together which will never happen since I like food too much. The best I can hope for is athletic and toned, or just not fat.
Female
Height 5'6"
Highest was one yr ago March: 180 lbs (about 32% body fat measured at the gym)
Lowest BODY FAT was 7 yrs ago at age 28: 132 lbs (19.6% body fat measured at the gym)
Lowest weight was probably in high school, but I don't really consider 16 or 17 yrs of age to be adult yet.
Current: 148 lbs and still losing. I don't want another body fat measurement until I reach my goal weight of 130 lbs. A guy at work who I had not seen in a few months said to me yesterday, "you look skinny, have you been losing weight?" Best compliment ever! BTW, I am FAR from being skinny, but it was still nice to hear.
I know it's not healthy to keep losing and gaining weight all the time, but most of my weight was packed on in the last couple of years. I consider my "normal" weight to be around 140, but I look better at an athletic and toned 130.
I am 5'3"..Small frame..My lowest adult weight was 105 (divorce stress) my normal adult weight is 118..The heaviest I waswith 4 pregnancies was 136 pounds..I now have health issues, including hyperthyroidism and weigh a whopping 153 poundsAm on synthroid, and heart meds and am losing it..
