I love history, any period and I love movies that are period pieces that are well done. Just a few of my picks......<s>
Definitely Gone with the Wind.
I don't know if you consider this historic, but I also
loved the original Out of Towners, with Jack Lemon.
When he got out his little pad and pencil and would ask
"What's your name" and write it down. LOL.
Our main focus seems to be on war related films and it struck me that "Eight Men Out" is among the finest historical films I've seen. As was "Tombstone."
Empire of the sun
Saving Private Ryan
Dances with wolves (I know there are some historical myths in this )
Schindlers List
Micheal Collins is also a fave
On a side note the lincoln movie was so boring and I almost fell asleep a couple of times .
Love the incredible dialogue, the acting (and over-acting), the sets, and especially the music. Who knows if this particular story is close to the truth, but Eleanor of Aquitaine was certainly one of history's most amazing women. Just for starters, how many women born in the 10th century lived to be at least 80, in spite of having gone on a Crusade? Not to mention, she was married to a King of France AND a King of England. The movie, based on a play by James Goldman, is about the latter part of her second marriage.
For my money, Katharine Hepburn has one of the greatest screen entrances of all time in this movie. (The boat should have won the Oscar.)
