correct, the meadows or a small green area/oasis in the middle of the desert fed by natural springs.
The city has put up a Springs Preserve park to honor that location, great place to visit when in town:

FYI: there's also a Las Vegas in New Mexico

Where is the location of the new expansion baseball team playing in championship games as we speak in American Independent Baseball League?
