I was an artisan who created among other things, jewelry, cigarette boxes, urns and stoneware. In my most famous works I used jewels and precious metals. I learned my craft in Germany and Italy. At the World's Fair in Paris I was awarded the Legion d'Honneur. In 1914 my business was forced to produce hand grenades and shell casings. I fled my country during the October Revolution and eventually settled in Switzerland.
Until someone produces a better candidate, I lay claim to the worst MLB career of all time. At the age of 26 I made my big league debut as my team's designated hitter. I received three plate appearances in what turned out to be my only game at the ML level. Capitalizing on my big opportunity, I struck out, hit into a double play, and hit into a triple play. Six outs in three at bats...and that was my entire career.
I retired from professional baseball and instead decided to become a pharmacist.
What - did you see the game? It was played in Arlington after all. It did take a bit of work to find this one and it wasn't all that many years ago. (2002) Ron Wright of the Seattle Mariners. Poor guy, what a career. At least he made it to the bigs which is no small feat.
Assuming this is the correct answer, I'd like to pass and let the next person to answer the bell take a turn.
Actually, Wright hit a fair ball in two of his three plate appearances. Jay Van Noy with the '51 Cardinals, came top bat 7 times and struck out 6 times. Both Wright and Van Noy were from Utah.

I was a philantropist of the 19th and 20th Centuries. I did not stand out among important philanthropists in my time, but my name is commemorated as the top entry on a certain list of the planet's geographical extremes, where a feature bears my name, and is "the most ( . . .} in the world". Among my beneficiariess were American Negro education and Arctic exploration, as well as my home town in Connecticut, several New York museums, and I was one of the founders of the YMCA.
